50 Lighthouses

Featured in book and video Alone in the Night: Lighthouses of Georgian Bay, Manitoulin Island, and The North Channel.

Around the turn of the 20th-Century, when Great Lakes shipping was at its peak, Georgian Bay, Manitoulin Island and the North Channel had over 50 lighthouses. Today, half have been torn down. Many of these remaining towers are in a state of neglect. Their dwellings and fog plants have been destroyed. (The only fog plant left in this region is at Cove Island.)
